Dear Fellow Snub Shooters: Here are the latest updates from our ROSCOE snub shooters association for September 10, 2018. As always, it is in no particular order:
Monthly Members Shooting Experiment – One of the realities of having snub shooting members from across the US and in other countries is that the folks on this end have little chance to meet the members on the ranges in order to exchange snub shooting tips and ideas. One solution is to offer shooting drills and tips via the e-newsletter, invite our members to test them out at their local range, collect the results and share the collected information in a subsequent e-newsletters. To participate, members will require only a snub, a pair of speed loaders, a pair of loading strips and few rounds of ammunition.
ROSCOE Range Training Tip #1 – A skilled snub shooter should be able to manage: right and left handed gun handling, loose ammo, loading strip and speed loader manipulations, and back-up gun (BUG) manipulations. One of the first skills to develop is handling loose rounds on the range. Try this tip next time you are on the range. Place a given number of rounds in your left front and left rear pants pocket. Test how many loose rounds (2, 3, 4, 5, or 6) you can reliably manipulate at a time. My experience is the 3 loose rounds are all the average shooter can manipulate with little or no risk of dropping one or more. Test this yourself and let us know your results.
Readers Review Column – Every few weeks we receive some new revolver related item from one of the well-known manufacturers. Many times the test review of one staffer won’t match the experience of a second staffer. As a result we are inviting interested readers to join us in our reviews. We will request from the manufacturers three samples of each new item and assign one each to an interested ROSCOE member. Members will then test the item at his or her local range and write up a short review. The three reviews will run in a dedicated Readers Review Column in the subsequent issue of the ROSCOE Broadside.
ROSCOE’s Essentials of the Safe, Self-Defense Snub Revolver Program – It has become evident at the ROSCOE shooting matches that a number of shooters have never been exposed to a formal revolver safety training course. As a result we are crafting such a program for interested, new revolver owners and would-be shooters. This program will be offered through the regional shooting clubs at a tuition of only $44.00 or for free for current ROSCOE members. Any member interested in reviewing the program’s outline can request a copy via e-mail at info@ImWithROSCOE.com |
